Travel Tip – Currency

I know it’s a bit early, but I always plan ahead. I don’t want last minute stress. (I’m still bound to forget something very basic, but you can always get whatever you need abroad “at a cost 🙁 )
I started looking for the best exchange rate for foreign currency. Should I get it abroad? Get it at the airport? Get it before I go? Hmmm. I usually use my ATM abroad to get their currency. After reading a ton of reviews, I discovered that often the ATMs are empty. I need cash to pay for my hotel (they don’t accept credit cards) and I’m not a chance type person. Something is def bound to go wrong, so I try to limit it as much possible. Plus, it’s a little OCD coming out 🙂
Back to the currency question. I researched online a bit and I found most ATM’s (if everything is working correctly) charge 1% – 3%. And the airport exchanges are even worse. I found a couple of foreign currency places that you could get currency using a credit card and they deliver the currency UPS for $4. But, if you add the interest on the credit card (granted you don’t pay it off every month) + cash in the mail. 🙁 I’m a little leery. So, for $4 extra dollars I can go to my Huntington bank and pay an $8 flat fee for an unlimited amount. Solution 🙂 Other banks may offer the same deal, so be sure to check around. It may save you a few bucks.

Fyi. We did have trouble getting pesos in Baja 2 years ago. My bank debit card did not work. I aince have gotten a capitol one 360 card which worked well in Italy but not sure about Mexico. Also, as you said, many businesses and gas stations in Mexico did mot take credit cards or the credic card machine was broken. Another word of advice with Mesico. Always carry tissue and hand sanitizer as many banos were not equipped with these essentials.

Yes, I’ve learned to always carry toilet paper in Thailand. That’s a good thing to add. I normally do everything cc too, but when I was reading reviews and feedback from dif sites. I got a little concerned, especially because most places (like my hotel, it says right on the website,) only take cash. Thanks

I was curious if you ever thought of changing the structure of your site?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
